Fourth installment tax deadline approaches on Thursday April 30 giving residents final chance to pay with limited interest
Rochester, New York – As the end of April approaches, local officials are reminding residents that an important tax deadline is fast closing in. Thursday, April 30 marks the final opportunity for taxpayers to complete the fourth installment of their 2026 Combined Town and County Tax bill while incurring a 4.5 percent interest rate. After that date, additional penalties may begin to apply, making timely payment especially important for those who have yet to settle their balance.
For many households, deadlines like this can easily slip through the cracks, particularly during a busy spring season. Still, town officials stress that several convenient payment options remain available, giving residents flexibility in how they meet their obligations.
Those who prefer to handle matters in person can visit the Town Clerk’s Office, which operates on a weekday schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The office remains a reliable choice for residents who want direct assistance or simply feel more comfortable completing transactions face-to-face.
For others, a drop box option offers a practical alternative. Payments placed in the designated drop box before 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, will still be treated as if they were submitted on time. This small grace window may provide relief for those rushing to meet the cutoff.
Mail-in payments are also accepted, though there is one key detail that cannot be overlooked. Officials emphasize that only official U.S. postmarks dated April 30 will qualify as timely submissions. Postage meter marks, often used by businesses, do not meet the requirement, which could lead to unintended delays or additional charges.
Meanwhile, digital payment continues to be a popular route for many residents. Online transactions can be completed up until midnight on April 30 without additional interest, although users should expect a convenience fee when choosing this method. The system, accessible through the county’s official website, offers a last-minute solution for those unable to visit in person or send payments by mail.
While the process itself may seem routine, officials encourage residents not to wait until the final hours. Technical issues, long lines, or simple oversight can quickly turn a manageable task into a costly one.
Additional details, including guidance on payment methods and requirements, are available through the town’s official website. With multiple options in place, residents still have time to act—but only if they do so before the clock runs out at the end of April.
