Residents invited to celebrate national trails day this Saturday
Pittsford, New York – Residents of Pittsford are being encouraged to step outdoors this Saturday, June 6, as the town joins communities across the country in celebrating National Trails Day with a focus on local parks, walking paths and outdoor recreation.
The event highlights the importance of public trails and outdoor spaces, and this year’s celebration comes with an added incentive for residents to explore more of what the town has to offer. Community members are invited to take part in the Wegmans Hit the Trail Passport program, a local initiative designed to encourage hiking and cycling across several designated routes.
The program is a partnership between the Town of Pittsford and Wegmans, and it features eight different trails located throughout Pittsford parks. Each trail varies in length and difficulty, giving participants a range of options depending on their experience level and interest. Some routes are short and beginner-friendly, while others offer longer and more challenging terrain for those looking for a more active outing.
Participants who hike or cycle six of the eight listed trails can earn a Wegmans reusable shopping bag as a reward. Those who complete all eight trails are eligible to be entered into a drawing for a $250 Wegmans gift card. To qualify, residents simply need to bring their completed passport to the Spiegel Pittsford Community Center.
The passport program materials are available at two convenient locations: the Spiegel Pittsford Community Center at 35 Lincoln Avenue and the Wegmans store at 3195 Monroe Avenue. Officials say the program has become a popular way for families, individuals and outdoor enthusiasts to discover new areas of the town while staying active.
Town representatives emphasize that the initiative is meant not only to promote physical activity but also to highlight the natural beauty of Pittsford’s park system. Trails across the community offer a mix of wooded areas, open spaces and scenic views, making them accessible for casual walkers and more experienced hikers alike.
Additional information about town parks, trail maps and program details can be found on the official website at www.townofpittsfordny.gov/parks-and-trails.
As National Trails Day approaches, residents are being reminded to prepare for outdoor conditions, wear appropriate footwear and bring water while exploring the trails. Officials hope the event will encourage more people to take advantage of local green spaces and discover new parts of the community they may not have visited before.
Whether participants are aiming for a short walk or planning to complete the full passport challenge, the town says the goal is simple: get outside, enjoy the trails and celebrate the natural resources available right in Pittsford’s backyard.
