Mayor Evans and County Executive Bello honor local officers and deputies during National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day observance

Rochester, New York – Rochester Mayor Malik D. Evans and Monroe County Executive Adam J. Bello came together to formally recognize National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, offering thanks and public acknowledgment to the men and women who serve in local law enforcement agencies across the region. The recognition focused on the daily efforts of officers and deputies who work to protect residents while navigating the growing demands placed on public safety professionals.

The observance was marked by a private gathering held at the Public Safety Building, where city and county leaders met with members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Rochester Police Department. During the event, Mayor Evans and County Executive Bello presented a joint proclamation to Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter, Rochester Police Chief David Smith, and several officers and deputies in attendance. The proclamation expressed appreciation for their dedication, resilience, and continued service to the community.

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day serves as an opportunity for public officials and residents alike to pause and recognize the responsibilities carried by those in uniform. For Rochester and Monroe County, the event highlighted the shared commitment between city and county leadership to support law enforcement agencies while encouraging professionalism, accountability, and strong community relationships.

In his remarks, Mayor Evans emphasized the consistency and courage required of officers who serve around the clock. “Today, and every day, is an opportunity to thank the officers who show up day and night for our community—often under challenging circumstances—with courage, compassion, and integrity,” said Mayor Evans. “Their work is essential to public safety, and I appreciate their continued efforts to build trust and relationships with the families they serve with professionalism and respect.”

County Executive Bello echoed those sentiments, focusing on the sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel and their families. “Our sworn police officers and Sheriff’s deputies protect and serve our communities every day with extraordinary bravery, honor, and selflessness,” said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. “We are deeply grateful for their unwavering commitment to answering the call of duty, for their service, and for the sacrifices they make to keep our families, streets, and neighborhoods safe.”

Officials noted that while the event itself was brief, its message carried lasting importance. Law enforcement officers face evolving challenges, including public safety concerns, community expectations, and the need to respond effectively in difficult situations. Leaders stressed that recognition and support play a key role in maintaining morale and reinforcing the value of public service.
