Rochester, New York – Applications are now officially open for a wide range of summer recreation and aquatics jobs across the City of Rochester, offering residents a chance to step into seasonal work that supports community programs, outdoor fun, and public safety. From neighborhood recreation centers to day camps, swimming pools, and public beaches, the city is preparing its workforce for the 2026 summer season well ahead of time.

The hiring effort covers positions suited for many age groups and experience levels. Entry-level opportunities are available for applicants as young as 15, while more advanced and supervisory roles are designed for candidates with prior experience in recreation or aquatics. According to city officials, qualified applicants can expect to be contacted for interviews beginning in March, with most positions scheduled to start in June 2026.

Several recreation-focused roles are now accepting applications online at www.CityofRochester.gov/RecJobs. These positions require a high school diploma or GED and include Recreation Assistant, Senior Recreation Assistant, and Day Camp Supervisor. Staff in these roles help organize activities, supervise youth programs, and support daily operations at R-Centers and city-run camps throughout the summer months.

Aquatics positions are also open and span a broad range of responsibilities, from poolside supervision to beach management. Interested candidates can apply through the same city website. Lifeguarding roles start at $20.60 per hour and require specific certifications, which are outlined in each job description. Open positions include Lifeguard and Beach Lifeguard roles, along with leadership titles such as Lifeguard Lieutenant, Captain, and Beach Manager. Additional openings include Locker Room Attendant, Pool Attendant, Assistant Pool Manager, Assistant Beach Manager, and Ground Equipment Operator.

To help residents qualify for these aquatics positions, the City of Rochester will once again offer lifeguarding certification and recertification courses. These classes will run from March through May at the Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center, located at 485 N. Clinton Ave. City residents can attend these courses free of charge, while non-residents may also participate for a fee of $75 for youth and $125 for adults.

In addition, a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course will be available for those seeking to advance into supervisory aquatics roles. The course costs $175 for city residents and $400 for non-residents. WSI certification is required for certain leadership positions and equips participants with skills to teach swimming and water safety programs.

City leaders say the seasonal hiring initiative is not just about filling positions, but also about building skills, work experience, and career pathways for Rochester residents. Many past summer employees have used these roles as stepping stones into long-term careers in recreation, public service, and aquatic safety.

“Whether you’re looking for your first job or are interested in growing your career, our recreation and aquatics teams have an opportunity for you,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “Apply today to set yourself up for success this summer!”

Applications for all listed positions are now open, and interested individuals are encouraged to apply early to increase their chances of securing a spot. With competitive pay, free training opportunities, and a chance to serve the community, Rochester’s summer recreation and aquatics jobs remain a popular option for seasonal employment.
