Rochester, New York – The City of Rochester has extended the temporary closure of ROC City Skatepark as crews continue scheduled repairs and maintenance work on the facility’s original section, with the park now expected to reopen to the public on Wednesday, October 28, weather permitting.

City officials said the additional closure period will allow municipal crews and contractors to address several maintenance and repair needs associated with Phase 1 of the skatepark. The work is taking place as construction on Phase 2 of the facility approaches completion.

The extension means skateboarders, cyclists, and other park users will have to wait a little longer before returning to the original skating area. The city has emphasized that the reopening date remains dependent on weather conditions.

The repairs are intended to address existing maintenance needs while construction activity continues elsewhere at the site. Both efforts are part of the work currently affecting access to the skatepark.

Officials are also reminding residents that all fenced-off and designated construction areas must remain off-limits to the public while improvements are underway.

According to the city, skateboarding, biking, or engaging in other recreational activities on unfinished surfaces can damage recently completed work. Such damage could require additional repairs and potentially delay the opening of the full facility.

The warning applies even when sections of the construction site may appear ready for use. Park visitors are being asked to respect temporary barriers and avoid entering restricted areas until the city officially makes them available.

The temporary restrictions are particularly important as work on the skatepark’s second phase moves closer to completion. Protecting newly finished surfaces will help contractors continue their work without unnecessary interruptions.

Although the city has identified Wednesday, October 28, as the anticipated reopening date for the original section, the announcement does not establish a final opening date for the entire expanded skatepark.

Residents should therefore distinguish between the planned reopening following Phase 1 repairs and the eventual availability of areas being developed under Phase 2.

The city has thanked Rochester residents and skatepark users for their patience and cooperation during the extended closure.

Visitors planning to use the facility later in the week are encouraged to check for additional municipal announcements, particularly if weather conditions affect the repair schedule.

Additional information and any subsequent updates can be found through the City of Rochester’s official website.
