Penfield, New York – Readers in Penfield will have an opportunity to meet bestselling author Alison Espach this fall when the Penfield Public Library hosts an author talk and book signing centered on her widely read novel The Wedding People.

The event will give local readers a chance to hear Espach discuss her work and connect with her in person. A book signing and light refreshments will follow the talk, creating an informal setting for attendees to meet the author after the presentation.

Espach is the author of The Wedding People, published in 2024. The novel has drawn significant attention from readers and critics and became a New York Times bestseller as well as a selection for the Today Show’s Read with Jenna Book Club.

At the center of the story is Phoebe Stone, an English professor who arrives at a difficult point in her life. After a series of painful circumstances, Phoebe feels that her life has lost its value. Her situation takes an unexpected turn when she becomes involved in the wedding plans of someone she does not know.

What begins as an unusual encounter gradually becomes something more meaningful. Through the people and events surrounding the wedding, Phoebe begins to reconsider her own life and discovers that happiness and self-reflection may be closer than she expected.

The book has received strong attention since its release. It has sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide and has been selected as a Best Book of the Year by several major publications, including The Guardian, Time, Chicago Tribune, Elle, Real Simple, and Glamour.

The novel has also attracted praise for combining humor with emotional moments. Jenna Bush Hager of the Today Show’s Read with Jenna Book Club described it as “the perfect book to wrap up your summer reading…hilarious and heartwarming!”

For local readers who already own The Wedding People, the signing will provide an opportunity to bring their personal copy and have it signed by Espach. Readers who do not yet have the book will also be able to purchase a copy at the event through Another Chapter Bookstore, a local independent bookshop.

The library is also making the event accessible to a wider audience. Sign language interpretation will be provided during the program.

For people who cannot attend in person, there will be another option. Thanks to Penfield TV, the author talk will be livestreamed at 7 p.m. on September 10. The recording will remain available for two weeks following the event, allowing those who miss the live presentation to watch it later through the Penfield Public Library website or the Penfield TV YouTube channel.

The library is asking registered attendees to keep their reservations updated. Anyone who registers but later realizes they cannot attend is asked to notify the library by calling 340-8720 or updating their registration status online. This will allow available spaces to be offered to people waiting for an opening.

The library also warns that multiple registrations under the same name will be treated as duplicate entries and may be deleted.

For fans of The Wedding People, the evening will combine conversation, books and the chance to meet Espach. For readers who have not yet picked up the novel, the event may offer a useful introduction to the story that has earned both bestseller status and a place in the Read with Jenna Book Club.
