Irondequoit police officer hospitalized after being injured during Saturday night domestic incident

Irondequoit, New York – An Irondequoit police officer and two other people were injured during an incident Saturday night that began with a report of a woman being stabbed, according to local police.

Officers were called to Case Terrace in Irondequoit shortly before 8 p.m. after receiving a report involving a woman who had been stabbed. When police arrived, they encountered 23-year-old Nelson Gomez, who allegedly ran from officers.

A short foot chase followed, ending on Deerfield Drive. According to the Irondequoit Police Department, Gomez was taken into custody after being bitten by a police K-9.

The incident also left a 24-year-old woman with a head injury. She was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

An Irondequoit police officer was also hurt while responding to the incident. Police Chief Scott Peters said the officer was hospitalized following the encounter but is expected to be okay.

The circumstances surrounding the injuries were still being investigated. Police said the incident stemmed from a domestic argument, although officials did not provide additional details about what led to the confrontation.

Gomez is facing several charges in connection with the incident, including assault, criminal mischief and resisting arrest, along with other charges. The allegations against him remain subject to the court process.

The response involved multiple officers as police worked to secure the scene, locate Gomez and address the injuries reported during the confrontation.

The injured officer’s condition was described as stable enough for officials to expect a recovery. The woman who suffered the head injury was also hospitalized, while Gomez was taken into custody following the brief chase and K-9 apprehension.

Police have not released additional information about the extent of the injuries or provided further details about the domestic dispute that preceded the incident.
