Rochester R-centers announce early closing schedule across multiple locations between june 3 and june 11 for staff training sessions
Rochester, New York – Several R-Centers across the City of Rochester will temporarily adjust their evening schedules in early June as staff take part in planned training sessions aimed at improving services and programming.
City officials announced that the R-Centers, which normally remain open until 9 p.m. on weekdays, will close earlier than usual on select days between June 3 and June 11. The temporary changes will affect multiple community centers located throughout the city, with different sites closing at different times depending on the scheduled training activities.
On Wednesday, June 3, two locations will see adjusted hours. The Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center at 485 N. Clinton Ave. will close at 5:30 p.m., while the Thomas P. Ryan R-Center at 530 Webster Ave. will close at 6:45 p.m. City officials noted that these early closures are necessary to allow staff to participate in structured professional development.
The schedule continues on Monday, June 8, when additional centers will also close ahead of their regular evening hours. The David F. Gantt R-Center at 700 North St. will close at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Avenue D R-Center at 200 Avenue D, which will close at 6:45 p.m. These adjustments are part of a broader training initiative designed to strengthen staff readiness and improve community programming.
More early closures are planned for Tuesday, June 9. The Carter Street R-Center at 500 Carter St. will close at 5:30 p.m., while the Adams Street R-Center at 85 Adams St. will shut down at 6:45 p.m. City leaders emphasized that while the schedule changes may temporarily limit evening access, they are intended to enhance long-term service quality.
On Wednesday, June 10, two more facilities will follow a similar pattern. The Edgerton R-Center at 41 Backus St. will close at 5:30 p.m., and the Hope R-Center at 524 Campbell St. will close at 6:45 p.m. Staff participation in training sessions will continue across departments, focusing on improving operations and community engagement.
The final scheduled early closure will take place on Thursday, June 11. The Frederick Douglass R-Center at 999 South Ave. will close at 5:30 p.m. After this date, all participating staff are expected to return to regular evening programming schedules.
City officials confirmed that all R-Centers will resume normal operating hours following the completion of the training sessions. Residents can find updated schedules and additional information on the official city website at www.CityofRochester.gov/R-Centers.
While the temporary closures may affect evening plans for some residents, city representatives say the training sessions are an important investment in staff development. The goal is to ensure that community centers continue providing safe, engaging and well-managed programs for residents of all ages.
As the city continues to support recreational and educational services through its network of R-Centers, officials emphasize that these short-term adjustments are part of a larger effort to maintain and improve the quality of community programming across Rochester.
