Rochester, New York – Rochester City School District has announced its 2025 Educators of the Year, honoring seven exceptional staff members who have made lasting contributions to students, families, and the school community. These dedicated professionals were recognized during a heartfelt awards ceremony held on Wednesday, May 28, at the district’s central office at 131 West Broad Street. The event was also streamed live on the district’s YouTube channel, allowing the broader community to take part in the celebration.

Now in its fifth year, the Educators of the Year program was created in 2021 by RCSD’s Office of Human Capital. Its goal is to recognize employees across the district who consistently go beyond expectations to provide high-quality, supportive learning environments. Nominations come from a variety of sources—including fellow staff, students, families, supervisors, and community members—and are thoroughly reviewed by a selection committee.

This year’s honorees represent a wide range of roles and school settings, but all share a deep commitment to student success. The seven award categories highlight the many different ways RCSD employees contribute to education:

• Administrator Educator of the Year: Jaime Lustig, Central Office
• Elementary Educator of the Year: Margot Egling, The Children’s School of Rochester No. 15
• Bilingual Educator of the Year: Noelle Rich, Abraham Lincoln School No. 22
• Secondary Educator of the Year: Richard Holland, Rochester Early College International High School
• Special Area Educator of the Year: Anastasia Polashenski, Loretta Johnson Middle School
• Related Services Educator of the Year: McKensey McDonald, Rochester Early College International High School
• Support Staff Educator of the Year: Dannetta Lee Singletary, Virgil I. Grissom School No. 7

“Each of these individuals represents the very best of our district,” officials said. “Their impact reaches far beyond the classroom, and their dedication helps shape the future of Rochester’s youth.”

One of this year’s award recipients, Anastasia Polashenski, will move forward to compete in the statewide Educator of the Year competition. This opportunity continues a strong tradition for RCSD, which is already home to the 2024 New York State Teacher of the Year, Zach Arenz, a music teacher at The Flower City School No. 54.
