Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich announces a special scholarship opportunity to honor the legacy of public servant Jerry J. Helfer

Greece, New York – Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich, alongside the Town of Greece Youth Board, has officially announced the opening of applications for the Jerry J. Helfer Youth Engagement Scholarship. This annual scholarship aims to recognize outstanding high school seniors who demonstrate strong moral character, leadership skills, and a dedication to community service.
The scholarship honors the legacy of Jerry J. Helfer, a devoted public servant whose impact on the Greece community continues to be felt today. Helfer, known for his kindness and unwavering commitment to service, began his civic journey as a member of the Greece Youth Board. He later served as a Town Councilman from 1998 to 2009 and as Deputy Supervisor in 2014 until his untimely passing that same year.
“Jerry was an upstanding citizen, co-worker, and friend,” said Supervisor Reilich. “It is an honor for me to announce this scholarship in memory of Jerry. His respect for public service and his love for learning are the foundations of this scholarship. Jerry loved his community, and we want to be able to engage our youth to enable their participation in local government and community service. I encourage all seniors in high school to apply for this scholarship and continue Jerry’s lifelong legacy of public service and learning.”
The Jerry J. Helfer Youth Engagement Scholarship serves as an opportunity to highlight and support young individuals who actively contribute to the betterment of the Greece community. Applicants must exemplify the values that Helfer stood for, including integrity, leadership, and a strong commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
