Rochester airport earns fourth consecutive place among USA TODAY’s best small airports
Rochester, New York – Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport has earned a place among the country’s best small airports for the fourth year in a row. ROC finished ninth in the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, continuing its run of national recognition.
The selection began with 106 small-to-medium sized airports nationwide. An expert panel narrowed that field to 20 nominees, and readers then voted to determine the 10 winners. The awards recognize airports that combine commercial flight options, convenient access, and amenities that help distinguish the travel experience.

“Being named a top-ten small airport is an honor. Earning that honor four years in a row shows a commitment to excellence,” said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. “This past year, we completed the $38 million terminal renovation, transforming the entire airport campus into a state-of-the-art facility. We’ve also added new airlines and new non-stop routes for business and leisure travel, and we’ll keep working to make ROC the most convenient, hassle-free experience for travelers.”
Features available to ROC passengers range from parking assistance to entertainment inside the terminal. A green light parking guidance system helps travelers find parking, while free video arcades and children’s play areas offer activities in the A and B Concourse rotundas. Those spaces were created in partnership with the Strong Museum of Play.
Inside the terminal, passengers can use free high-speed Wi-Fi provided by Greenlight Networks and charging stations located throughout the building. Modern lounge seating and a combination of local and national dining options provide additional choices while travelers wait for flights.

The airport also features the Corporal William T. Perkins Jr. Veterans Area and the Frederick Douglass Airfield Observatory. These are among the amenities highlighted in Monroe County’s announcement of the award.
Accessibility services form another part of the airport’s offerings. Hearing loops are available throughout the terminal, and the free Aira ASL live interpreter app supports passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing. Blind and low-vision travelers can receive support through complimentary Aira Network membership.
This year’s ninth-place finish follows both the terminal renovation and the addition of airlines and nonstop routes. The recognition gives ROC a fourth consecutive appearance among the readers’ top 10 selections.
