Tupper Lake man arrested after multiple domestic violence incidents in the village

New York – A Tupper Lake man has been arrested following a New York State Police investigation into three separate domestic violence incidents reported in the village over the course of several weeks.

Jesse J. Pickering, 44, of Tupper Lake, was taken into custody by state police on August 28, 2026, after troopers responded to another reported dispute at a residence on Pleasant Avenue. The arrest followed investigations into incidents reported on July 23, August 9 and August 28.

The first incident occurred in the early morning hours of July 23. According to state police, troopers were called to Pleasant Avenue at about 2:51 a.m. for a report of a domestic dispute involving Pickering and the victim.

Investigators determined that the incident began as a verbal argument before escalating into a physical confrontation. Police allege that Pickering grabbed the victim by the hair and dragged the person to the ground.

While the victim was on the ground, Pickering allegedly applied pressure to the victim’s neck and struck the victim several times in the back of the head with a closed fist. Police said Pickering then retrieved an aluminum baseball bat and made threatening statements toward the victim.

The investigation also found that a glass candlestick was allegedly smashed against a table during the confrontation.

The victim eventually managed to get away and ran to a nearby residence to seek help. Pickering left the area before troopers arrived and could not immediately be located.

State police said troopers carried out an extensive search for Pickering during the days that followed. The investigation eventually led to an arrest warrant being issued by the Town of Tupper Lake Court.

A second incident was reported on August 9. At approximately 8:25 a.m., troopers responded to Ivy Terrace after receiving a report of a domestic dispute that had taken place at a residence on Pleasant Avenue.

According to investigators, Pickering and the victim were involved in another physical confrontation. Police allege that Pickering struck the victim multiple times with a metal grate during the incident.

The confrontation allegedly continued when Pickering grabbed the victim by the neck, causing the victim to lose consciousness.

After the incident, Pickering again fled from the area. The victim went to a friend’s residence to seek assistance, while troopers searched multiple locations in an effort to find Pickering.

Despite the searches following the first two incidents, Pickering remained at large until August 28, when another call brought troopers back to Pleasant Avenue.

The latest incident was reported at approximately 10:07 a.m. Police said Pickering was at the victim’s back door, yelling and demanding to be allowed inside.

The victim fled through the front door in an attempt to get away. During the escape, the victim tripped, and Pickering allegedly struck the victim multiple times in the head, according to state police.

The victim was able to escape again and ran for assistance. Pickering left the scene, prompting another search by troopers.

This time, police were able to locate him. Pickering was arrested and transported to State Police Tupper Lake for processing.

The three investigations resulted in a lengthy list of criminal charges. Pickering was charged with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree. He also faces charges of Menacing in the Second Degree, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation and Unlawful Imprisonment.

Additional charges include two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, Petit Larceny, three counts of Aggravated Family Offense, Burglary, Strangulation in the Second Degree and Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.

The charges stem from the separate investigations conducted by state police into the incidents reported in July and August. The allegations described by police have resulted in multiple serious charges against Pickering.

Following his arrest, Pickering was arraigned in the Town of Tupper Lake Court. The court ordered that he be remanded to the Franklin County Jail.

Pickering was held on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond. His arrest brings the search for him following the three reported incidents to an end, while the criminal case now moves forward through the court system.
