72-year-old Gouverneur man dies after dump truck crashes into parked refuse truck and overturns in Stockholm

New York – A 72-year-old Gouverneur man was killed Monday morning after the dump truck he was driving collided with a parked refuse truck on County Route 47 in the town of Stockholm, according to New York State Police.

The crash happened on August 24, 2026, at approximately 7 a.m. State Police members were called to County Route 47 after receiving a report of a collision involving a dump truck and a refuse truck.

Investigators determined that a 1999 TK Sterling dump truck was traveling south on County Route 47 when it struck a 2009 Freightliner refuse truck that was parked along the west shoulder of the roadway.

The impact caused the dump truck to leave the west shoulder. The vehicle then overturned, leaving the operator with serious injuries.

The dump truck driver was identified as Gregory E. Yaddow, 72, of Gouverneur. Local fire and rescue personnel responded to the crash and emergency crews worked at the scene. Despite those efforts, Yaddow was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the refuse truck was identified as Frederick S. Fraser, 44, of Saint Regis Falls. Fraser had a passenger in the vehicle, identified by police as Tina M. Langdon, 57, also of Saint Regis Falls.

Neither Fraser nor Langdon was injured in the collision, according to State Police.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being examined. Investigators have not announced additional details about what led the dump truck to strike the refuse truck, and the investigation remains active.

Several law enforcement units were involved in the response. Members of the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit traveled to the scene and assisted with the investigation.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance.

The collision reconstruction and commercial vehicle units are expected to examine the vehicles and roadway conditions as part of the ongoing investigation. Such investigations can involve a detailed review of the crash scene and the vehicles involved to establish the sequence of events.

The deadly collision occurred during the morning hours on County Route 47, where the dump truck was traveling south before the crash. The refuse truck had been stopped on the west shoulder when it was struck.

No injuries were reported for the two people inside the refuse truck, but the crash proved fatal for Yaddow.

New York State Police have not released further information regarding the cause of the collision. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
