Town of Penfield earns New York Pro-Housing Community Certification

Penfield, New York – The Town of Penfield has officially received New York State’s Pro-Housing Community Certification, marking a milestone that town leaders say will strengthen future development efforts while expanding opportunities to secure state funding for local projects.

Town Supervisor Kevin Berry announced that the town’s application for the designation has been approved, describing the certification as an important achievement for the community. The recognition makes Penfield eligible to compete for a wider range of state grants that support infrastructure improvements, transportation projects, community development, and other public investments that were previously out of reach.

According to Berry, the certification offers more than financial opportunities. It also reflects Penfield’s willingness to take part in addressing New York’s broader housing needs through thoughtful planning and balanced growth rather than sweeping development changes.

Maintaining the Pro-Housing Community Certification will require the town to provide annual updates to New York State, including revised zoning maps and permit data.
