Brewster, New York – A Brewster man is facing multiple criminal charges after New York State Police said he was involved in a head-on collision in the Town of Patterson that investigators say was caused by impaired driving.

The crash occurred on the morning of July 3, 2026, at approximately 10:47 a.m., when New York State Police from the Brewster station responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision with injuries near the intersection of Lake Shore Drive and Camden Road.

According to the investigation, a 2011 Chevrolet driven by 39-year-old Alfredo A. Martinez of Brewster was traveling north on Lake Shore Drive when the vehicle crossed over the center line into the southbound lane. Police said the Chevrolet then collided head-on with a 2021 Subaru traveling in the opposite direction.

The Subaru was being driven by 45-year-old Christopher Malizia, also of Brewster. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene to assist those involved in the collision and assess their condition.

Authorities said Martinez was not injured in the crash. Malizia and a passenger riding in the Subaru were evaluated by emergency personnel at the scene. After receiving medical attention, both individuals were released without requiring transportation to a hospital.

As troopers continued their investigation, they observed signs that Martinez was impaired. Officers conducted standardized field sobriety tests at the scene, and based on the results, Martinez was taken into custody.

Police transported him to the State Police barracks in Brewster, where he underwent additional processing. Investigators said Martinez agreed to provide a chemical breath sample, and the test indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.19 percent.

That reading is more than twice New York’s legal blood alcohol limit of 0.08 percent for most drivers and meets the threshold for an aggravated driving while intoxicated charge under state law.

Following the investigation, Martinez was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated, and Reckless Driving. All three offenses are classified as unclassified misdemeanors. In addition to those criminal charges, police said he was cited for several violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

After processing was completed, Martinez was issued an appearance ticket rather than being held in custody. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Patterson Court on August 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., where he will answer to the charges filed against him.

The investigation concluded that Martinez’s vehicle entered the opposing lane before the collision, leading to the crash. Although the incident resulted in vehicle damage and prompted an emergency response, authorities said none of the people involved suffered serious injuries.

The case remains part of New York State Police efforts to investigate crashes involving suspected impaired driving and enforce laws intended to improve roadway safety. The charges against Martinez are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
