State Police investigate serious motorcycle crash in Gouverneur after rider struck stopped SUV on State Highway 58 and suffered life-threatening injuries
New York – A serious motorcycle crash in the town of Gouverneur is under investigation by New York State Police after a collision on State Highway 58 left a 65-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.
The incident happened on June 23, 2026, at around 1:40 p.m., when troopers were called to the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. The crash occurred along a stretch of highway that local drivers often use for east-west travel through the area.
According to investigators, a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was heading eastbound on State Highway 58 when the rider failed to notice a vehicle ahead that had slowed and stopped in the roadway. The vehicle, a 2015 Toyota RAV4, was waiting with its turn signal on, preparing to make a left turn onto Old Route 58.
Police say the motorcycle struck the rear of the Toyota. The impact caused the rider to be thrown from the motorcycle onto the roadway.
