Connecticut man arrested after lengthy investigation into multiple business burglaries across Greene County
New York – A months-long investigation into a series of burglaries targeting businesses in Greene County has led to the arrest of a Connecticut man who authorities say was responsible for break-ins at three separate establishments earlier this year.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in Catskill announced on June 18 that Troy P. Stone, 41, of Ansonia, Connecticut, has been arrested in connection with burglaries at Gracie’s Luncheonette and Camptown in Leeds, as well as Selena’s Diner in Haines Falls.
According to investigators, the case dates back to January 17, 2026, when troopers from State Police Catskill responded to a commercial burglary alarm at Gracie’s Luncheonette on County Route 23B in the Town of Catskill. The alarm was reported at approximately 1:16 a.m., prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.
Authorities later determined that Stone had unlawfully entered the business. However, the burglary was interrupted when the alarm system was activated, causing the suspect to flee the scene before completing the crime. Although little was taken from the establishment, investigators began gathering evidence that would eventually connect the incident to other burglaries in the area.
Later that same morning, at around 9 a.m., troopers received another report involving a break-in at Selena’s Diner in Haines Falls. Investigators learned that the burglary had occurred the previous evening, at approximately 11:02 p.m.
During that incident, authorities allege Stone entered the diner without permission and stole roughly $400 in cash. The theft added another piece to what was becoming a broader investigation into commercial burglaries affecting local businesses.
As detectives continued their work, they also examined a burglary reported at Camptown, a business located in the Town of Catskill. Investigators determined that the break-in occurred during the early morning hours of January 17.
According to state police, Stone unlawfully entered the property and stole approximately $1,645 in U.S. currency. The theft represented the largest financial loss among the three incidents and further strengthened investigators’ belief that the burglaries were connected.
What followed was a lengthy investigation by members of the State Police BCI in Catskill. Detectives worked for several months to identify and track the suspect while collecting evidence related to the crimes.
Their efforts eventually led them beyond New York’s borders. In April 2026, investigators located Stone after learning that he had been arrested in Massachusetts on unrelated charges. That development provided authorities with an opportunity to move forward with the Greene County case and coordinate with law enforcement agencies in multiple states.
The legal process continued over the following weeks. On June 18, Stone was formally extradited on a felony warrant from the State of Rhode Island, allowing authorities to proceed with the charges connected to the Greene County burglaries.
Stone now faces multiple criminal counts stemming from the investigation. He has been charged with three counts of Burglary in the Third Degree, a Class D felony that involves illegally entering a building with the intent to commit a crime. He is also charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a Class E felony involving property valued at more than $1,000, as well as one count of Petit Larceny, a Class A misdemeanor.
Following his arrest, Stone was arraigned in the Town of Catskill Court. The court ordered that he be remanded to the Greene County Jail pending further proceedings.
Court records indicate that Stone is scheduled to return to the Town of Catskill Court on June 23, 2026, at 10 a.m.
The arrest marks a significant development in a case that affected multiple local businesses and required months of investigative work. Authorities have not announced any additional arrests in connection with the burglaries, and the investigation is considered resolved with respect to the charges filed against Stone.
