Registration opens early for the 2026 Upstate New York MWBE conference bringing new opportunities for business growth

Rochester, New York – Registration is now open for one of the largest gatherings focused on supporting minority- and women-owned businesses in upstate New York, with organizers preparing for a three-day program designed to connect entrepreneurs with training, resources, and decision-makers.

The City of Rochester announced that it will host the 4th Annual Upstate MWBE Conference from March 30 through April 1, 2026. The event will take place at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center, where business owners from across the Finger Lakes, Western New York, Central New York, and Southern Tier regions are expected to gather.

Organizers say the conference has steadily grown in both attendance and influence, becoming a key regional platform for entrepreneurs seeking certification opportunities, government contracting information, and professional connections. Registration is being handled online, with minority- and women-owned businesses strongly encouraged to secure their spots early.

This year’s theme, “Creating Space Where Certification and Merit Elevates Excellence,” reflects a focus on helping businesses turn official credentials into lasting success. Participants will be able to select from four separate training tracks. Each is designed to show how certification, proven performance, and operational capability can work together to strengthen competitiveness and support long-term growth.

City leaders say the conference is meant to be practical, not just symbolic. It aims to connect business owners directly with agencies, partners, and procurement opportunities.

“The Upstate NY MWBE Conference is more than an event. It brings together players and partners that help MWBEs grow their businesses and create jobs,” said Malik Evans. “If you are a minority- or women-owned business, you will not want to miss this year’s conference. MWBE programs, which stand for Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises, are supported at federal, state, and local levels. They are designed to address longstanding structural barriers that have historically limited access to government contracting opportunities. Through certification, eligible businesses can compete more effectively for public projects involving goods and services.

The upcoming conference will open at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 30, with an afternoon workshop aimed at setting the tone for the days ahead. That evening will feature a jazz reception followed by an awards dinner and keynote presentation, celebrating business achievements within the MWBE community.

Activities will continue the next day, March 31, beginning at 7:30 a.m. with training sessions running throughout the morning and afternoon. A luncheon featuring a guest speaker will provide additional networking opportunities and insight into industry trends.

The final day, Wednesday, April 1, will include panel discussions, another networking luncheon, and a large MWBE Expo where businesses can meet buyers, explore partnerships, and showcase their services.

Officials say the conference ultimately serves a broader purpose: strengthening local economies by helping diverse businesses grow, create jobs, and compete on equal footing. With registration now underway, organizers expect strong participation from across upstate New York as entrepreneurs look for ways to expand their reach and build lasting connections.
