Ten-vehicle crash temporarily closes Route 490 ramp in Rochester on Sunday morning
Rochester, New York – A major traffic incident disrupted travel along Route 490 South in Rochester on Sunday morning after a crash involving ten vehicles forced the temporary closure of a busy ramp near the Interstate 590 split south of Blossom Road.
The collision occurred at around 10:30 a.m., a time when traffic volumes often begin to increase as weekend drivers head out across the region. The chain-reaction crash unfolded on the southbound side of Route 490, quickly creating hazardous conditions and bringing traffic to a standstill in the affected area.
Emergency crews responded swiftly. Photographers at the scene confirmed that multiple fire crews were present, along with at least one ambulance. The strong emergency response underscored the scale of the incident, even as officials later reported that the injuries involved were minor.
According to New York State Police, all injuries sustained in the crash were minimal. No fatalities were reported, and authorities did not immediately indicate how many individuals required medical attention at the scene or were transported to local hospitals.
The New York State Police and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were both dispatched to manage the crash response, secure the area, and assist with traffic control. The Rochester Police Department did not respond to the incident. Crews worked to clear damaged vehicles from the roadway and assess any safety concerns before allowing traffic to resume.
For several hours, the crash caused delays and forced drivers to seek alternate routes as the ramp remained closed. Motorists traveling through the area were advised to exercise patience and caution while emergency personnel completed their work.
Later in the day, authorities confirmed that the ramp had reopened, restoring normal traffic flow along Route 490 South. While the immediate disruption has ended, questions remain about what led to the multi-vehicle crash.
At this time, the cause of the collision is still under investigation. State police have not released further details and are expected to continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident as part of their ongoing inquiry.
