Penfield, New York – Residents of Penfield will have a chance to learn more about how the town plans to improve walking and biking conditions later this month, as officials continue shaping a long-term vision for safer, more connected travel.

An informational open house focused on the Town of Penfield Active Transportation Plan is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, at the Penfield Community Center. The drop-in event will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is open to all members of the public.

The open house comes as the planning process reaches an important stage. Town officials and the project team are still gathering input before draft recommendations are finalized. The goal is to make sure future investments reflect the needs and experiences of people who walk and bike in Penfield every day.

During the event, visitors will be able to review presentation boards that outline potential facility improvements and investment ideas. These displays are designed to show how sidewalks, crossings, bike routes, and other infrastructure could evolve in the coming years. Project team members will be on hand to answer questions and explain how different concepts could work in practice.

Community feedback is a central part of the Active Transportation Plan. Residents are encouraged to stop by at any point during the two-hour window to share their thoughts, whether they have specific concerns about safety or broader ideas about mobility and access. Input gathered at the open house will help guide the final recommendations that the town plans to develop.

Town leaders say the planning effort is focused on improving pedestrian and bicyclist mobility across Penfield. By looking at current conditions and future needs, the plan aims to support safer travel options for people of all ages and abilities, while also strengthening connections between neighborhoods, schools, parks, and local destinations.

Those who attend do not need to stay for the entire event. The open-house format allows residents to come and go, ask questions directly, and take time to review the information at their own pace.

The February 24 open house offers one of the last opportunities for public input before the Active Transportation Plan moves closer to completion, making it a key moment for residents to help shape the town’s transportation future.
