Rochester, New York – Rochester police are continuing to investigate an early-morning fight that sent two people to the hospital and led to a weapons charge against a separate individual.

Officers were called to the area of South Winton Road and Hoyt Place around 2:28 a.m. Sunday after reports of a disturbance involving multiple people. When police arrived, they found a chaotic scene that had already escalated beyond a verbal disagreement.

A 22-year-old man was discovered suffering from at least one stab wound to his upper body. Nearby, a 30-year-old woman was found with a laceration. Both victims are Rochester residents. Emergency medical crews transported them by ambulance to local hospitals, where they were treated for injuries that police described as non-life threatening.

According to investigators, the confrontation began as an argument before turning physical. Police have not released details about what sparked the dispute or how many people were directly involved. As of Sunday, no arrests had been made in connection with the stabbing or the woman’s injury.

While working the scene and continuing their investigation, officers encountered another individual not identified as one of the injured parties. A different 22-year-old Rochester man was found to be in possession of a handgun. Police say he will be charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.

Authorities did not indicate whether the firearm was used or displayed during the fight, and police have not said how the weapon may be connected to the initial altercation. The presence of the gun, however, added another layer to an already serious incident, underscoring concerns about violence and illegal weapons in residential areas.

Police remained in the area for several hours as they gathered evidence and spoke with potential witnesses. Investigators are still working to determine the full sequence of events and whether additional charges may be filed.

The Rochester Police Department is asking anyone with information about the fight or the people involved to come forward. Tips can be shared anonymously, and officials say even small details could help clarify what happened during the early-morning hours.

As the investigation continues, police emphasized that the injuries were not life-threatening but described the situation as dangerous and avoidable. The case remains open, and updates are expected as detectives continue their work.
