State Police assigned to Troop G report a series of notable DWI and impaired driving arrests across the region from December 17 through December 23
New York – New York State Police assigned to Troop G reported a series of notable Driving While Intoxicated and impaired driving arrests across the Capital Region between December 17 and December 23, highlighting continued enforcement efforts during a busy pre-holiday period.
The first arrest occurred in the early morning hours of December 17 in Troy, when troopers from the Latham Interstate Patrol were flagged down near 1st Street for a driver found unconscious behind the wheel of a running vehicle. The driver, a 31-year-old Watervliet man, was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and later recorded a blood alcohol content well above the legal limit. He was released to a sober third party and is scheduled to appear in Troy City Court in January.
Just over an hour later, State Police in Brunswick stopped another vehicle on Front Street in Troy. The driver, a 45-year-old Rensselaer woman, was arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Investigators determined she had a prior DWI conviction within the past ten years and was driving without a valid license. Blood samples were collected, and she was later released pending a court appearance in March.

Additional DWI arrests followed that same day in Easton and Broadalbin. In Easton, a Valley Falls man was stopped on State Route 40 and recorded a BAC of 0.19 percent. In Broadalbin, troopers responded to another report of an unconscious driver. That investigation escalated when the driver became uncooperative and attempted to flee, resulting in multiple charges including Resisting Arrest and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation.
Enforcement continued through the following days. On December 18, a Fort Edward man was arrested in Moreau with a reported BAC of 0.21 percent. On December 21, a Valatie man was taken into custody on I-90 in East Greenbush after recording a BAC of 0.23 percent.
One of the most serious incidents occurred on December 23, when troopers responded to a one-car crash on I-787 in Colonie involving a child under the age of 16. The Albany driver was charged under Leandra’s Law, along with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, after both occupants were hospitalized with significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
Later that night, another Albany man was arrested on Central Avenue with a reported BAC of 0.18 percent. All defendants are scheduled to appear in local courts at later dates, and all charges remain allegations pending court proceedings.
