City Hall and multiple administrative offices announce temporary closures as Rochester prepares to observe the Thanksgiving holiday
Rochester, New York – As Thanksgiving approaches, Rochester residents can expect a brief slowdown in city operations, with several municipal offices and public facilities preparing for a two-day closure later this week. The holiday pause, which stretches across Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28, is part of the city’s annual observance, giving employees a chance to spend the holiday with loved ones while the community adjusts to a temporary shift in services.
According to officials, “Rochester City Hall, Neighborhood Service Centers, R-Centers, Rochester Animal Services, the Rochester Public Market, and the Honorable Loretta C. Scott Center for Human Services administrative office building at 57 St. Paul St. will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28, in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.” These major closures will create a short pause in everything from administrative paperwork to front-desk assistance.
Library users should also plan ahead. “Rochester Public Library branches will be closed on Thurs., Nov. 27, and will re-open on Friday, Nov. 28.” While the interruption is brief, patrons might want to pick up books, print documents, or finalize research needs before the holiday begins.
Youth and recreation programs will take a longer break than most city departments. “All R-Centers will be closed Thurs. Nov. 27 through Sat., Nov. 29.” With schools already out for the holiday, families may need to prepare alternative activities for these few days.
City waste services will also shift slightly. “Refuse and recycling collection will not take place on Thurs., Nov. 27, and will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.” Residents are encouraged to wheel their bins out on the adjusted schedule to avoid missed pickups.
The temporary pause extends to animal services as well. “Rochester Animal Services will be closed to the public on Thurs., Nov. 27, and Fri., Nov. 28. Additionally, the Community Pet Food Pantry will be closed on Fri., Nov. 28, and will host its next event on Fri., Dec. 12.” Anyone planning to adopt a pet, reclaim a lost animal, or seek assistance from the pantry will need to wait until regular hours resume.
The city’s 311 system will have only a brief interruption. “The 311 Call Center will be closed on Thurs., Nov. 27, and reopen on Fri., Nov. 28, from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.” Residents can continue using the online portal during the closure.
Holiday shoppers can still enjoy a pre-Thanksgiving rush at the Rochester Public Market. As officials confirmed, “The Rochester Public Market, 280 N. Union St., will be open for Thanksgiving shopping on Wed., Nov. 26, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Market will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thurs., Nov. 27, and will resume its regular schedule on Sat., Nov. 29.”
With these adjustments, residents are encouraged to plan ahead, stay informed, and enjoy a safe, restful holiday weekend.
