Pittsford, New York – The Town of Pittsford has announced that several municipal offices and services will be closed on Monday, October 13, in observance of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day. The annual holiday serves as both a recognition of early exploration history and a celebration of the heritage and contributions of Indigenous communities across the nation.

According to town officials, the closures will include Town Hall, the Highway Department, the Parks and Sewer departments, the Spiegel Community Center, and the Town Court. These facilities will all resume normal operations on Tuesday, October 14.

While most public offices will be closed for the day, residents will still have access to library services. The Pittsford Community Library will remain open for its regular hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., providing a quiet and welcoming space for study, reading, and community programs.

Town leaders remind residents that essential services will continue to be available if emergencies arise during the holiday. “In case of an emergency requiring Town of Pittsford services during the holiday closure, please call (585) 248-6212,” the notice stated.

The dual observance of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day has become an opportunity for reflection and education in many communities. Pittsford’s recognition of both observances aligns with a growing effort across the country to honor Indigenous cultures and acknowledge their lasting impact on American history.

Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly for the closures, especially if they need to conduct business with any of the town’s departments. Officials also note that garbage collection, mail delivery, and other services not operated by the town may follow separate schedules based on provider policies.

As Pittsford marks the holiday, the town continues to balance its respect for tradition with a recognition of the diverse cultural heritage that shapes the community. Regular municipal services will return to their standard schedule the following day.
