Rochester, New York – Students and teachers at Helen Barrett Montgomery School No. 50 are starting the school year with a welcome boost, thanks to a $5,000 donation aimed at providing vital classroom supplies. The funding, secured through AdoptAClassroom.org, will directly support eight classrooms at the Rochester school, ensuring that students have access to the basic tools they need to thrive academically.

Educators say the contribution will have an immediate impact. Many teachers spend their own money each year to cover classroom gaps, from pencils and notebooks to learning aids and technology. This donation helps to ease that financial burden while putting necessary materials directly into students’ hands.

“I want to thank Burlington for their generous donations through their partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org,” said Principal Lakisha Taylor. “Our teachers are so excited to purchase the tools they need for their students this year.”

Teachers at School No. 50 will be able to select items that best fit their students’ needs, whether that means new art supplies, updated math resources, or literacy materials. For many families, these resources will also ease the challenge of purchasing back-to-school items during a time when costs are rising.

The timing of the donation is closely tied to Burlington’s newest local expansion. The company recently opened its Irondequoit store at 2255 East Ridge Road. As part of its long-standing community giving program, Burlington celebrates each store opening by “adopting” local classrooms through AdoptAClassroom.org. The partnership is designed to support children in the communities where Burlington operates, providing them with stronger opportunities to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

By focusing on classroom-level needs, the initiative makes a direct and visible difference in the daily lives of students and teachers. Burlington’s approach reflects a growing recognition that schools require more than just dedicated staff and engaged families—they also need steady access to supplies that allow teachers to teach effectively and students to learn without barriers.

Through the AdoptAClassroom.org partnership, Burlington has supported schools across the country, and School No. 50 is the latest to benefit from the program. The hope is that these kinds of contributions not only improve learning conditions but also inspire greater community involvement in supporting public schools.

For students in Rochester, the $5,000 gift means walking into classrooms where resources are available and opportunities feel within reach. And for the teachers tasked with shaping young learners’ futures, the donation is both a practical help and a show of support that their work matters.
