Monroe County, New York – Work is officially underway at one of Monroe County’s most popular golfing destinations. County Executive Adam Bello has announced that construction has begun at Durand Eastman Golf Course to upgrade the course’s aging drainage system. The project, which started Monday, September 22, is designed to improve long-term playing conditions while reducing the impacts of heavy rainfall.

“Updating our drainage system will improve future playing conditions, prevent water buildup, and make the course more resilient in the rainy season,” said County Executive Bello. “The project is anticipated to cause some disruptions in play, and we ask for your patience and cooperation as we make these long-term improvements to the course.”

The construction effort will not be invisible to golfers. Several holes are expected to undergo temporary changes as crews install the upgraded drainage lines. Yardages and pars will be adjusted during the work, and players may notice large equipment in use on select areas of the course. Despite the disruptions, the county is offering reduced fall rates to help offset the inconvenience.

The adjusted prices at Durand Eastman are as follows: nine holes walking for $10, nine holes riding for $17, 18 holes walking for $13, and 18 holes riding for $27. Officials also noted that information about fall rates at the county’s other courses—Churchville and Genesee Valley—will be shared in the near future.

Durand Eastman, located along Lake Ontario and known for its scenic views, has long been a draw for local golfers of all skill levels. However, like many courses in the region, it struggles with water accumulation after heavy rains. The new drainage system aims to keep the fairways and greens playable for longer stretches of the season, minimizing cancellations and improving the overall golfing experience.

County officials are urging players to plan ahead and remain cautious while the work is in progress. Construction zones may affect pace of play, and patience will be key as maintenance crews move between holes. Bello emphasized that while short-term disruptions are inevitable, the investment will ensure the course remains a reliable venue for recreation in the years to come.
