Penfield, New York – Penfield residents will soon have an opportunity to clear out clutter, recycle unwanted materials, and donate items for a good cause during the town’s fall drop-off and recycling event. Supervisor Leenhouts has announced that the two-day program will be held on Friday, September 26, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, September 27, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Penfield Little League lower parking lot next to Bachman Field, located at 3180 Atlantic Avenue.

The event, open exclusively to Penfield residents, is designed to make disposal and recycling both convenient and environmentally responsible. Proof of residency will be required at the entrance. The fall collection has become a popular tradition for the community, giving households a chance to responsibly dispose of items that are too large or cumbersome for regular trash service while also providing opportunities to recycle and donate materials that still have value.

On both days, residents will be able to recycle metals and appliances, dispose of brush (though leaves and grass are not accepted), and donate clothing and linens. Bottle and can collections will also be accepted, helping to reduce waste and encourage reuse. The list of accepted household items is broad, covering furniture, appliances such as refrigerators, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners, drained lawnmowers, up to four car tires per household, vehicle batteries, broken concrete, and brush.

There are, however, limits on what can be dropped off. Electronics recycling will not be part of this event, so televisions, computers, monitors, and copiers should not be brought. Other items that are prohibited include propane tanks, grass clippings, leaves, chemical drums, hazardous materials, gasoline, motor oil, paint, and driveway sealer. These restrictions are in place to ensure safety and proper disposal practices.

In addition to recycling, the event will feature opportunities to donate items that can benefit others. Soles4Souls, a nonprofit group dedicated to collecting gently used shoes, will have donation boxes on site each day. Residents are encouraged to contribute any pairs they no longer need, helping extend the life of usable shoes while supporting a charitable mission.

A special service will also be available on Saturday, September 27. From 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Certified Document Destruction & Recycling will provide secure document shredding. This service allows residents to safely dispose of sensitive paperwork such as old bills, financial statements, and personal records, ensuring that private information is properly destroyed.

For many households, the fall drop-off and recycling event represents more than just a chance to get rid of unwanted items. It is also an opportunity to support community recycling efforts, reduce landfill waste, and participate in charitable giving. By offering a wide range of services over two days, Penfield continues its commitment to sustainability and community well-being.

Questions about the event can be directed to the Penfield Department of Public Works at (585) 340-8710. With careful planning and broad participation, the upcoming drop-off weekend is expected to be another successful chapter in the town’s ongoing efforts to encourage responsible disposal and recycling.
