Brockport, New York – The Village received a welcome boost this weekend thanks to SUNY Brockport students and community members who rolled up their sleeves for a Saturday of Service. The volunteer effort focused on freshening up public spaces that thousands of residents and visitors enjoy each year.

Armed with brushes, paint rollers, and gardening tools, teams spread out to several locations, leaving behind visible signs of their hard work. At Monika Andrews Park, parking bumpers were given a new coat of paint, adding both safety and curb appeal. Across town at Corbett Park, volunteers tackled multiple projects, from painting picnic tables to clearing weeds and sprucing up the flower beds surrounding the lilac bushes. Their efforts gave the popular park a brighter and more welcoming atmosphere just in time for late summer gatherings.

The service extended beyond the green spaces. At the Police Department, volunteers turned their attention to the side entrance and alley wall, painting and refreshing the building’s exterior. For officers and staff, the facelift was more than cosmetic—it was a reminder that community members appreciate and support the work they do every day.

The Village’s Parks Committee also joined in, ensuring that the projects were done with care and attention to detail. Together, the combined groups transformed spaces that often go unnoticed yet play an important role in community life.

“Thank you to SUNY Brockport’s Saturday of Service teams who came in and spruced up many Village amenities including two parks and the side entrance of the Police Department,” the Village shared in its message of appreciation. “These volunteer teams, along with volunteers from the Parks Committee, painted parking bumpers (Monika Andrews Park) and picinic tables (Corbett Park), weeded and cleaned the beds around the lilac bushes (Corbett Park), and painted the alley side of the Police Department. Thank you SUNY Brockport! We are so glad to be in community with YOU!”

For residents, the improvements may seem small at first glance, but they contribute to a larger sense of pride and connection. The day showed what can happen when students, civic groups, and local government come together with a shared purpose: building a stronger and more vibrant Village for everyone.
