Rochester, New York – Rochester Institute of Technology has welcomed a new leader to its enrollment management team, naming Allan Mathew as the university’s assistant vice president and dean of admissions. His appointment follows a nationwide search and officially began on August 1, when he joined RIT’s Division of Enrollment Management.

In his new role, Mathew will oversee both undergraduate and graduate admissions while guiding the university’s overall strategy for recruiting students. His charge extends beyond numbers, with a focus on drawing in students who are not only academically strong but also globally minded and aligned with RIT’s distinctive mission. That includes developing outreach that highlights the university’s brand, building meaningful connections with students, and making use of data-driven strategies to ensure that recruitment efforts match the needs of today’s higher education landscape.

“Allan stood out in our search for his strategic insight, technical fluency, and proven record in advancing enrollment goals,” said Kathleen B. Davis, vice president for Enrollment Management and associate provost. “He also brings a clear passion for student access, equity, and innovation—values that are central to our work at RIT.”

Mathew steps into the role with more than a decade of experience in admissions and enrollment leadership across multiple types of institutions. Most recently, he was senior director of Graduate Admissions at Tufts University, where he managed admissions for more than 75 graduate programs. In that position, he developed strategies to streamline enrollment, expand diversity, and strengthen student outcomes.

His career also includes leadership positions at the University of Texas at Dallas, where he served as assistant dean for Graduate Student Enhancement. There, his efforts supported initiatives designed to improve student experiences and open new pathways for academic advancement. Earlier, he held key roles at Messiah University in Pennsylvania, contributing to both graduate and undergraduate enrollment strategies, as well as marketing and student success efforts.

Throughout these roles, Mathew has built a track record of using technology to optimize admissions systems and has emphasized inclusion, equity, and opportunity for students from varied backgrounds. His work has often centered on creating access to higher education for groups that are historically underrepresented, while also ensuring that institutions remain competitive and forward-looking in a changing academic environment.

“My goal is to lead a team focused on recruiting students who seek the kind of education that RIT so uniquely offers,” said Mathew. “It’s exciting to join a division, and a community, focused on the future of strategic enrollment management; from global partnerships, expanding our brand nationally, and redefining student pathways to higher education success I am confident my experience and leadership will be well suited to RIT’s mission and strategic priorities.”

University officials say the addition of Mathew comes at an important moment, as colleges nationwide navigate shifting demographics, increasing competition, and changing expectations from students and families. With his background in both graduate and undergraduate recruitment, as well as international admissions, Mathew is expected to strengthen RIT’s ability to attract students not only from across the United States but from around the world.

As he begins his work, RIT looks to continue building a student body that reflects the university’s emphasis on innovation, research, and global connections. Leaders believe Mathew’s arrival will help position the university for long-term success in an increasingly complex admissions landscape.
