State Police take Nassau man into custody after a string of burglary cases across multiple

Nassau, New York – A 35-year-old man from Nassau is behind bars following his arrest in connection with a string of burglaries in the area, State Police announced.

On July 22, 2025, members of the New York State Police, with help from the Schodack Police Department, arrested John G. Weinheimer of Nassau, NY, after several weeks of investigations into multiple burglary cases.

Weinheimer faces a long list of charges including two counts of burglary in the second degree, one count of burglary in the third degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree, two counts of criminal mischief, two counts of petit larceny, and criminal possession of stolen property in both the fourth and fifth degrees.

The arrest stems from three separate burglary reports within the town of Nassau that took place between late June and late July.

The first incident occurred on June 30, 2025, when troopers responded around 8:00 a.m. to a report of a past burglary at a local business. Investigators said Weinheimer had forcibly entered the unoccupied business during the night, causing damage to property, stealing money, and even consuming products that belonged to the business.

The second incident was reported on July 19, after troopers were called to a scene involving a camping trailer in Nassau. Authorities say that Weinheimer broke into the camper during the overnight hours of July 18 into the morning of July 19. He reportedly caused significant damage and stole items valued at over $1,000.

Then, just two days later on July 21, State Police responded to a third call—this time involving a camping cabin. According to the investigation, Weinheimer allegedly entered the unoccupied cabin without permission during the previous overnight hours and stole at least one item from inside.

Troopers were able to locate Weinheimer the following day on July 22 in Nassau, where he was taken into custody without incident. During his arrest, authorities say they found multiple items that had been reported stolen during the earlier break-ins. These items were seized as evidence.

Weinheimer was brought to SP Schodack for processing and later appeared before the Schodack Town Court. He has been remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail.

Officials have not released details about the specific items stolen or the total estimated damage across the three incidents. However, law enforcement emphasized that the arrest was the result of close cooperation between State Police and local authorities.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed if more connections to unsolved property crimes are discovered.

Residents of Nassau expressed relief over the arrest, with several praising the quick response and coordination by police.
