Rochester Public Market will host its popular community garage sale event this Sunday morning

Rochester, New York – Shoppers, collectors, and weekend wanderers will have plenty of reasons to head over to the Rochester Public Market this weekend. On Sunday, August 3, the beloved Community Garage Sale returns, transforming the iconic outdoor venue into a bustling marketplace of secondhand treasures, unique finds, and old-school neighborhood charm.
Whether you’re on the hunt for vintage furniture, quirky home décor, rare collectibles, or just browsing for bargains, this event has something for everyone. And the best part? It’s free to enter, open rain or shine, and offers a chance to support local sellers in a fun and casual atmosphere.
The Community Garage Sale is just one highlight in a series of Sunday Funday events running through October at the Market. Organized by the City of Rochester, the series includes both classic garage sales and larger Flea Market Mashups with the Great New York State Flea, bringing together hundreds of vendors and thousands of eager shoppers.
“This is about more than just buying and selling,” said one market regular. “It’s a way to connect with the community, meet new people, and enjoy the energy of Rochester.”
Upcoming dates for the season are already marked on many calendars. After this Sunday’s event, the next Flea Market Mashup will take place on August 17 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., complete with the theme “Field Day Fun.” Additional garage sales are scheduled for August 31, September 14, and October 12, all running from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The final big mashup will be held on September 28 and promises to be a colorful day under the banner of “Roc Renaissance Day.”
If you’re considering selling some of your own goods, vending space is affordable and accessible. Each 10’ x 30’ stall costs just $35 per day and comes with a parking spot. For those planning to be part of multiple sales, there’s a discounted six-day package for $160. The application and more details are available online at www.cityofrochester.gov/garagesales, or in person at the Market Office at 280 N. Union St., open Tuesday through Saturday and on sale Sundays.
“Garage Sales and Super Fleas are held rain or shine, and admission is free,” organizers remind the public. “Most items for sale will be under cover in the outdoor market sheds.”
The Rochester Public Market, long known for its diverse offerings of fresh produce, artisanal goods, and community-centered events, continues to serve as a gathering space that celebrates both tradition and diversity. Events like these Community Garage Sales underscore the Market’s role as more than just a shopping destination — it’s a slice of local life.
To stay in the loop on all upcoming market events and vendor updates, follow the Public Market on Facebook and Instagram @CityofRochesterPublicMarket, or visit www.cityofrochester.gov/publicmarket.
So if you’re looking for an adventure this weekend that doesn’t require a ticket or a long road trip, the Rochester Public Market might be just the place. Whether you’re walking away with a vintage lamp, a stack of old records, or simply a few new stories from the sellers you’ve met, chances are, you’ll leave with more than you expected.
