Whitney Point, New York – A local man is facing serious charges after an investigation led New York State Police to uncover a series of unauthorized purchases made using someone else’s business account.

On July 10, 2025, State Police at Whitney Point arrested David R. Keener, 35, of Whitney Point, on a felony charge of Grand Larceny in the third degree, a class “D” felony. The arrest followed a month-long investigation into suspicious transactions reported by a local business owner.

According to authorities, the investigation began in June when a victim contacted Troopers, reporting unexpected charges to their business account at a nearby hardware store. The charges quickly raised red flags, prompting Troopers to begin a deeper inquiry.

Their findings revealed that Keener had made multiple unauthorized purchases during May and June, totaling more than $5,800 in tools, all without the knowledge or permission of the account holder.

“Keener purchased over $5800 worth of tools without the victim’s permission,” investigators stated.

Police were able to locate Keener on July 10. He was taken into custody without incident, brought to State Police headquarters in Whitney Point for processing, and later transferred to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

Keener now awaits legal proceedings, and it remains unclear whether he has secured legal representation. No further details were released about how he gained access to the victim’s account or what tools were purchased.

The case underscores the importance of regularly monitoring business accounts for irregular activity. Law enforcement officials continue to remind both individuals and businesses to take extra precautions when it comes to account security.

As the case moves forward, more information may become available regarding court dates and possible restitution.

For now, the investigation has closed with an arrest, but the financial and legal consequences for the accused are just beginning.
