Student-athletes from the Rochester City School District earn 2025 All-Greater Rochester Spring honors across multiple sports

Rochester, New York – Students from the Rochester City School District (RCSD) have made their mark this spring, earning spots on the prestigious 2025 All-Greater Rochester Spring Teams. The recognitions, presented by the Democrat and Chronicle, highlight student-athletes from across the region who stood out in performance, dedication, and sportsmanship. This year, RCSD is proud to celebrate the achievements of its student-athletes in track and field, flag football, baseball, softball, and lacrosse.
Two students earned coveted First Team honors for their outstanding accomplishments in their respective sports. Ka’Mara Lane of Padilla High School took home First Team honors in Girls Track and Field after a remarkable season as both a sprinter and jumper. She made it to the finals in the long jump at the state competition in Middletown, New York, and also ran the 100-meter dash in an impressive 12.13 seconds.
Ka’Mara’s achievements reflect not only her athletic talent but also her discipline and drive. With support from her parents, Chantecia Jackson and Darious Lane, she has committed to continuing both her academic and athletic pursuits at the University of Louisiana. “Ka’Mara delivered an outstanding performance this season,” the district stated in their official announcement.
Joining Ka’Mara in the spotlight is East High School’s Alina Matta, who earned First Team honors in Flag Football. Playing as a running back and linebacker, Alina dominated the field this season, racking up a total of 21 touchdowns—an achievement that stands out across the region. Alina will continue her journey at Roberts Wesleyan University, where she plans to study photography and compete in Division II flag football. Her parents, Orliz Espiritusanto and Rafael Matta, have been central in supporting her through her athletic journey.
Recognition also extended to Second Team honors in Flag Football, with Edison Career and Technology High School’s Jakayla Costello making the list for her strong performance throughout the season. The success of these top athletes is a testament to the growing talent within RCSD sports programs and the increasing visibility of student-athletes across different disciplines.
In addition to the First and Second Team recognitions, many students from across RCSD schools received Honorable Mentions. In baseball, athletes from School of the Arts, Edison, and East High School earned acknowledgment. Names such as Benjamin Barnosky, Carlos Gonzalez, and Justus Robinson reflect a wide base of emerging talent in RCSD’s baseball programs.
Boys Track and Field also saw representation, with Jayvon Johnson (James Monroe High School), Kesean Leonard (East High School), and Wayne Spencer (Padilla High School/School of the Arts/World of Inquiry) earning nods for their strong seasons on the track.
Girls Flag Football had four additional Honorable Mentions from East and Edison, including Hawa Ali, Journe Caliz, Jessica Conrow, and Genesis Rideway. Their presence on this list reflects the increasing strength of female athletic programs across RCSD.
Softball players from Padilla High School and School of the Arts also earned recognition, including Jessia Breedy, Shayliana Nartey, Destany Wilson, Avi Martinez, and Hope Reddington. These student-athletes helped lead their teams with skill and perseverance throughout the spring season.
Lastly, in boys lacrosse, East United’s Chancellior Williams received an Honorable Mention for his performance on the field, rounding out a spring season full of hard-earned recognition for RCSD students.
As the 2024–2025 school year approaches, the district is celebrating not only athletic talent, but the dedication and resilience that each of these student-athletes brings to their sport. The All-Greater Rochester recognitions are a reminder of the bright future ahead for RCSD’s sports programs and the young leaders rising from within them.
Congratulations to all the students, coaches, and families who contributed to a remarkable spring season.
