Rhinebeck, New York – A dispute over tree cutting escalated into a serious confrontation in the Town of Rhinebeck, resulting in the arrest of a local man accused of threatening another person with a handgun.

According to New York State Police, the incident occurred on the evening of July 3, 2025, around 7:13 p.m. Troopers from the Rhinebeck barracks responded to Long Dock Road after receiving a report of a menacing situation involving a firearm.

Following a brief investigation, authorities say a verbal disagreement had broken out between two individuals concerning the use of a chainsaw to cut down trees in the area. The disagreement quickly intensified, and police allege that one of the individuals, 55-year-old Joseph Z. Dalu of Rhinebeck, brandished a black handgun and racked the slide in a threatening manner aimed at the other person.
