Rochester, New York – As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, residents in Rochester are reminded that a number of city-operated offices and services will be closed on Friday, July 4, in observance of the holiday.

Rochester City Hall, along with several other key municipal locations, will not be open to the public. These closures include the Neighborhood Service Centers, all R-Centers, the Rochester Animal Services shelter, Rochester Public Libraries, and the Rochester Traffic Violations Agency. In addition, the administrative offices located at the Honorable Loretta C. Scott Center for Human Services at 57 St. Paul Street will also be closed for the day.

City officials are encouraging residents to plan ahead if they need assistance from any of these services before the holiday weekend begins. While these departments take the day off, the City’s 311 Call Center will remain operational with regular hours from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on July 4 to assist with non-emergency inquiries.

Trash and recycling pickup will also be affected by the holiday. There will be no curbside collection on Friday, July 4. As a result, services will be pushed back one day for the rest of the week. Residents with Friday collection will instead have their refuse and recyclables picked up on Saturday. Those whose regular collection days fall earlier in the week will not be impacted.

The temporary suspension of services comes as part of Rochester’s observance of Independence Day, a time when many take the opportunity to relax, attend community events, or enjoy fireworks displays with family and friends.

City officials urge residents to celebrate safely and responsibly, and to take advantage of the 311 line for any city-related questions or concerns during the holiday.

“City Hall, Neighborhood Service Centers, R-Centers, Rochester Animal Services, Rochester Public Libraries, the Rochester Traffic Violations Agency, and the Honorable Loretta C. Scott Center for Human Services administrative office building at 57 St. Paul St. will be closed on Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.”

“Refuse and recycling collection will not take place on Friday, July 4, and pickups will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.”

“The City’s 311 Call Center will maintain regular hours and be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on July 4.”

Residents are encouraged to check the City of Rochester’s website for further updates and service changes throughout the week.
