Erwin, New York – A domestic incident that escalated into property destruction led to the arrest of a Painted Post woman early Monday morning, according to New York State Police.

Troopers from SP Painted Post responded to a report of property damage at an apartment complex on Redwood Circle in the town of Erwin at approximately 8:20 a.m. on June 17, 2025. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered extensive damage to the front door of an apartment located at 13 Redwood Circle.

Following an investigation, authorities identified 32-year-old Raychel M. Finnerty of Painted Post as the individual responsible for the disturbance. According to police, Finnerty had driven to the residence after a dispute with a male acquaintance. Upon arrival, she allegedly forced her way into the apartment, causing significant damage to the entryway during the confrontation.

A child was present at the time of the incident, which authorities say added further concern to an already volatile situation. No injuries were reported, but the presence of a minor during the altercation contributed to the charges brought against Finnerty.

Police said Finnerty was taken into custody at the scene without further incident. She was transported to the SP Painted Post station for processing.

As a result of the investigation, Finnerty now faces multiple charges, including:

• Burglary in the Second Degree (Class C Felony)
• Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (Class D Felony)
• Three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class A Misdemeanor)
• Criminal Tampering in the Third Degree (Class B Misdemeanor)

After her arrest, Finnerty was arraigned in Steuben County Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court. She was released on her own recognizance and is expected to appear in court at a later date.

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details about the nature of the dispute or the relationship between Finnerty and the male individual involved.

Officials emphasized the seriousness of the charges, especially with a child present during the alleged confrontation. Cases involving domestic incidents and endangerment of minors are handled with added scrutiny under New York law.

New York State Police have not confirmed whether additional charges may be filed as the case proceeds. For now, Finnerty will answer to the current allegations in Steuben County court.

Residents with any additional information related to the case are encouraged to contact New York State Police at SP Painted Post.
