Penfield, New York – The Town of Penfield is preparing to roll out the red, white, and blue for its much-anticipated Independence Day celebration, set to take place on Saturday, June 28. According to Town Supervisor Jeff Leenhouts, this year’s festivities promise a full day of community pride, music, local tradition, and fireworks.

“I look forward to this day each year, and I am excited to come together with the community to celebrate our nation’s independence. I hope you will join us for our biggest event of the year, capped off by our incredible fireworks display,” said Leenhouts.

The celebration kicks off bright and early with a classic hometown parade that begins at 10 a.m. at Penfield High School. The route will guide floats and marchers along Five Mile Line Road, turn east onto Route 441, and continue north on Baird Road, finishing up at the Penfield Community Center at 1985 Baird Road. Drivers should be aware that roads on the parade route will close at 9:45 a.m., and parking restrictions will be in effect.

This year’s parade is shaping up to be a true showcase of Penfield’s community spirit. Attendees can expect a colorful and musical lineup, featuring performances by the Penfield Fire Company Band, Feadan Or Pipe Band, Prime Time Brass, and the Towpath Volunteer Fife & Drum Corps. Local favorite Terry Clifford, previously of 92.5 WBEE, will serve as the parade emcee, bringing his familiar voice to guide the morning’s festivities.

A special honor will go to Braman Farms, named as the 2025 Parade Marshal. The Braman family has been part of the Penfield landscape since 1825, farming the land in East Penfield for nearly two centuries. The town is recognizing the family’s long-standing contributions and deep agricultural roots that continue to shape the community’s character today.

Once the parade wraps up, the celebration shifts to Harris Whalen Park for an evening packed with family-friendly fun. Starting at 6 p.m., visitors can enjoy a variety of food trucks and vendors, as well as a lineup of live music. Headlining the entertainment will be Northside Johnny, bringing an energetic set to cap off the night before the skies light up.

At 10 p.m., the highlight of the evening will begin—the annual fireworks show. Launched from Harris Whalen Park, the display will be visible from nearby neighborhoods and local business parking lots. However, town officials note that no cars will be allowed into Harris Whalen Park during the event. The park’s parking will be strictly limited to emergency responders, including police, fire, and EMS personnel. Once the fireworks conclude, the park will be cleared promptly.

In the event of rain or bad weather, the parade will unfortunately not be rescheduled. However, the evening festivities, including the fireworks, will be postponed to Sunday, June 29, with all events retaining their original start times.

The day’s full schedule is as follows:

• 10 a.m. – Parade kicks off (road closures begin at 9:45 a.m.)
• 6 p.m. – Festivities begin at Harris Whalen Park, including food vendors and live music
• 10 p.m. – Fireworks show begins

The annual celebration has become a hallmark of summer in Penfield, drawing residents of all ages to take part in a shared sense of hometown pride and patriotic cheer. The event is not only a time to commemorate the nation’s founding but also to highlight the strong community ties that make Penfield a special place to live.
