Rochester, New York – The rhythm of classic soul will fill the air this weekend as the International Plaza transforms into a stage for a powerful tribute to Motown’s golden era. From 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, visitors at 828 N. Clinton Ave. will be treated to a lively musical experience presented by JWhispers Entertainment, led by local event organizer Evans Buntley.

This free, family-friendly event is part of the International Plaza’s ongoing signature series and promises to bring the unmistakable sound of Motown to life with vibrant energy and rich nostalgia. The tribute performance will pay homage to music legends like The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes, and Stevie Wonder—artists whose songs have shaped American music history.

Attendees can expect soulful vocals, smooth choreography, and timeless melodies that still resonate today. Whether you’re reliving the magic or hearing these hits for the first time, the event offers an opportunity to gather as a community and celebrate the enduring legacy of Motown.

As Evans Buntley and his team gear up for what is expected to be a high-energy show, excitement is already building in the neighborhood. “It’s a tribute, yes, but it’s also a celebration,” Buntley said. “We’re bringing together generations of people through music that still moves us, that still means something.”

But the experience doesn’t stop at the music. Food lovers will also find plenty to enjoy at the Plaza throughout the weekend, as a trio of popular vendors set up shop with dishes from across Latin America and the Caribbean.

De Mi Tierra Food and Supplies will be offering a variety of tamales, chorizos, empanadas, and other specialties from Mexico and Colombia. La Parada de Salinas brings a Puerto Rican twist to comfort food with items like papas rellenas and golden empanadas. And New Generation Meats delivers a mix of savory fried treats like alcapurrias alongside sweet offerings such as traditional ice cream.

These vendors will be available Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., making the Plaza a perfect weekend destination for anyone craving authentic street food flavors alongside entertainment and community.

More than just a place to shop or watch a show, the International Plaza has grown into a cultural centerpiece in Rochester’s Northeast neighborhoods. The collaborative effort between the City of Rochester and the Ibero American Development Corporation reflects a commitment to celebrating diversity and creating a welcoming space for all.

With its emphasis on music, food, art, and connection, the Plaza helps shine a light on the contributions of Latino and other communities to the broader cultural fabric of the city. Local organizations frequently take part in events to offer information about citizen services and community programs, ensuring that visitors leave not only entertained, but empowered.

Parking at the site is limited, so organizers are encouraging visitors to consider walking, biking, carpooling, or taking public transportation when possible. With nice weather in the forecast, it’s an ideal time to enjoy a soulful afternoon outdoors with neighbors and friends.
