State Police arrest 18-year-old suspect following theft of vape pens worth over three thousand dollars from gas station in the Town of Lloyd

Rochester, New York – An 18-year-old male has been arrested in connection with a high-value theft that took place last fall at a gas station in the Town of Lloyd. The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Highland announced the arrest on May 20, 2025, marking the end of a months-long investigation into the case.
The incident that led to the arrest occurred in the early morning hours of November 30, 2024. At approximately 4:00 a.m., troopers from the State Police Highland barracks were dispatched to the Mobil gas station located at 3660 Route 9W in Lloyd after receiving a report of larceny. When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that a suspect had entered the store and stolen a display case filled with vape pens valued at more than $3,000. The suspect fled the location before police arrived.
Following the initial report, investigators began combing through evidence, which included surveillance footage and other leads. It took nearly six months for authorities to identify and apprehend the individual believed to be responsible for the theft.
According to officials, the suspect was taken into custody and charged with Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree, which is a Class D felony, as well as Conspiracy in the 5th Degree, a Class A misdemeanor. These charges reflect not only the value of the stolen merchandise but also indicate that others may have been involved or aware of the criminal plan.
“This case demonstrates the commitment of our investigators to follow every lead and ensure accountability,” said a spokesperson for the New York State Police. “Even when it takes time, we work tirelessly to bring those who break the law to justice.”
After being arrested, the suspect was processed at the Highland State Police barracks. He was arraigned later that same day, at 1:00 p.m., in Ulster County Youth Part Court.
Authorities have not released the name of the 18-year-old due to the nature of the court in which the case was arraigned. Additional details regarding potential co-conspirators or further legal proceedings have not yet been made public.
As the case moves forward, officials are reminding business owners and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity. Anyone with further information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the New York State Police at Highland.
This arrest marks another step forward in addressing retail theft, which continues to impact businesses across the region.
