New York State Police arrest Broome County man after discovering child exploitation materials and illegal drugs during search

Johnson City, New York – A Broome County man is facing multiple felony charges after a disturbing discovery during a police investigation in Johnson City.
On April 4, 2025, investigators from the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations at Endwell, working in conjunction with the Troop C Computer Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, arrested 33-year-old Thomas P. Murray of Johnson City. The arrest followed the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Zoa Avenue in the village.
During the search, authorities reportedly uncovered images “consistent with child sexual exploitation” in Murray’s possession. In addition to the child pornography, police say Murray was found with suspected illegal substances and materials that suggested the production of methamphetamine. The potential presence of hazardous materials prompted a response from the Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (CCSERT), which is trained to handle dangerous drug-related environments.
Following the on-scene investigation, Murray was charged with a series of serious offenses. These include:
• Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree, a class B felony
• Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony
• Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine in the third degree, a class D felony
• Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class D felony
• Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child (five counts), all class E felonies
• Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor
After being taken into custody, Murray was processed at the New York State Police station in Endwell. He was then transported to the Broome County Jail, where he awaits centralized arraignment.
The investigation is part of an ongoing effort by state police and affiliated task forces to combat both child exploitation and illegal drug activity across New York. No additional details about the case have been released at this time, and it remains unclear whether Murray has legal representation.
Authorities have not said whether more arrests or charges are expected in connection to the case. The investigation is still ongoing.
