Monroe County, New York – Monroe County residents will once again have the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous household waste and unused medications as County Executive Adam Bello announces the return of the Department of Environmental Services’ annual Mobile Household Hazardous Waste and Pharmaceutical Collections program. This initiative, which continues to expand accessibility, aims to protect both the environment and public health by ensuring harmful chemicals and pharmaceuticals do not end up in landfills or waterways.

“Both the health of our environment and the health of our families can be jeopardized by the improper disposal of household hazardous waste,” said County Executive Adam Bello. “That’s why we’re making it easier than ever to dispose of hazardous items by bringing our collection initiative to our neighborhoods. Just bring your household hazardous waste and pharmaceuticals to one of our collection events and our Department of Environmental Services will handle the rest.”

The program, held in collaboration with local municipalities, allows residents to safely dispose of a wide range of hazardous household materials, including up to 30 gallons of chemicals such as paint, automotive fluids, fertilizers, household cleaners, and pool chemicals at no cost. These efforts are designed to prevent environmental contamination and reduce the risk of accidental exposure in homes.

To participate in household hazardous waste collections, residents must schedule an appointment online through the Monroe County/WM Ecopark website at www.monroecounty.gov/ecopark. Appointments ensure a smooth and efficient collection process while accommodating as many residents as possible. Any Monroe County resident can book an appointment for any of the scheduled collection events, regardless of their municipality.
