Authorities respond to fatal structure fire in the town of AuSable as state police work to determine the cause

New York – Authorities are investigating a tragic fire that claimed the lives of two individuals in the early hours of March 20, 2025. At approximately 1:00 a.m., State Police responded to reports of a fully engulfed structure fire on Margaret Street in the town of AuSable.
Upon arrival, firefighters from local departments worked tirelessly to control the blaze before entering the severely damaged residence. Inside, they made a devastating discovery – two deceased individuals.
State Police, working alongside New York State Fire Investigators, examined the scene to determine the cause of the fire. After a thorough assessment, investigators concluded that the fire was accidental, with no evidence of suspicious activity.
An Essex County Coroner was present at the site and ordered the removal of the victims. Their identities have not yet been confirmed, and further details are pending.
Autopsies are scheduled to take place at Glens Falls Hospital, where Forensic Pathologist Dr. Michael Sikirica will conduct examinations to determine the cause and manner of death. The results of these autopsies are expected to provide more clarity on the tragic incident.
