Morgan-Manning House Museum reveals exciting lineup of educational and historical events for spring 2025

Brockport, New York – The Morgan-Manning House Museum is moving forward with an exciting lineup of spring programs in 2025, proving that not even a devastating fire can stop the preservation and celebration of local history. Thanks to the support of two dedicated historical organizations, the Triangle Tract Historical Society and the Clarkson Historical Society, the museum is ensuring that the community still has access to insightful and engaging presentations.
Despite the significant damage the house suffered in a fire this past January, organizers have secured a new venue for the programs. All events will be hosted at the Clarkson Academy, located at 8343 West Ridge Road. The series aims to captivate history enthusiasts with a mix of architectural studies, regional materials, and stories of pioneering individuals.
The first event in the lineup will take place on April 1 at 7 p.m. and will feature Bill Lattin, a respected historian and former director of the Cobblestone Society in Albion, NY. Lattin, alongside Cobblestone director Doug Farley, will present a narrated slideshow based on the updated edition of his book, Architecture Destroyed. Attendees will get a glimpse of architectural landmarks from Orleans County that have been lost to demolition over the years. The presentation will showcase “before and after” images, offering a striking visual account of these vanished structures. Copies of Lattin’s book will be available for purchase, and he will be signing them for interested guests. Admission to this event is free.
The next program, scheduled for Sunday, May 4 at 3 p.m., will be led by Jim Friday, who will delve into the fascinating history of Medina Sandstone. This distinctive local stone has played a crucial role in the construction of many notable buildings and landmarks. Friday’s presentation will highlight its significance and enduring impact on regional architecture.
On May 22 at 7 p.m., the series will conclude with an engaging multi-media lecture by Karen Lankeshofer. Her presentation will focus on Elsa Von Blumen, an early high-wheel cyclist from the 1880s who broke barriers as a female athlete in a male-dominated sport. This inspiring story will provide a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of one of cycling’s pioneering women.
The museum’s ability to continue offering these programs despite the recent fire is a testament to the dedication of local historical societies and the importance of preserving the past. By partnering with the Clarkson Historical Society and the Triangle Tract Historical Society, the Morgan-Manning House Museum is ensuring that the community remains connected to its rich history.
Residents and history enthusiasts are encouraged to attend these events and support the museum as it works towards recovery. For more details, visit the Morgan-Manning House Museum’s website or contact the hosting organizations directly. These events serve as a reminder that while buildings may be lost, history endures through the stories we share and the efforts we make to preserve it.
