Monroe County, New York – Monroe County is calling on community members to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand in preserving its beautiful park system. County Executive Adam Bello announced that registration is now open for the 15th annual “Pick Up The Parks” event, scheduled for April 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers can now sign up on the county’s official website: monroecounty.gov/parks-pickuptheparks.

This long-standing initiative aims to clear the parks of debris and litter accumulated over the winter months, ensuring they are clean and welcoming for the warmer seasons ahead. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate, as their efforts help reduce waste from entering local waterways and contribute to maintaining Monroe County’s scenic green spaces.

“We’re grateful that every year, hundreds of Monroe County residents come together to volunteer to clean up our parks,” said County Executive Adam Bello. “Community service plays a crucial role in strengthening our neighborhoods, and by volunteering, you’re not only improving the environment but also fostering a sense of unity and pride. If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, I encourage you to join with your friends, family or community organization for a rewarding day that will help prepare our parks for the warmer months ahead.”

Volunteers will have a variety of tasks to choose from, including:

• Collecting and removing litter and trash
• Raking leaves and clearing away natural debris like fallen branches and rocks
• Performing additional maintenance tasks such as sweeping shelters, mulching, and weeding at designated locations

Participants can choose to assist at any of the county’s 22 parks, ensuring that all public green spaces receive the attention they need. Rain or shine, the event will proceed as planned unless severe weather conditions arise.

Groups looking to participate must complete and submit registration forms via email to [email protected] by March 28. Individual volunteers can also register through the county’s website.
