New York – A Poughkeepsie woman faces felony and misdemeanor charges after New York State Police investigated complaints about customer payments at a private business in East Fishkill.

State Police in Wappinger identified the woman as Shakeema L. Winters, 38. She was arrested on October 13, 2026, and charged with third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony, and second-degree criminal impersonation, a class A misdemeanor.

The investigation began in May 2026 after the business received complaints from several customers. Those customers reported that they had paid for services, but the business had not received their payments, according to police.

Investigators allege that Winters, who worked at the business, collected the money through her personal account. Police said those payments were directed outside the business’s authorized payment system.

Authorities allege that Winters received more than $4,000 from multiple victims. That figure represents the combined amount described by police, rather than a payment from a single customer.

The case developed from the complaints received in May to Winters’ arrest in October. The police announcement did not identify the business or specify how many customers were affected beyond stating that there were multiple victims.

Winters was released on her own recognizance following her arrest. She is scheduled to appear in the Town of East Fishkill Court on November 4, 2026. The charges are allegations and do not establish guilt.
