Town of Pittsford to unveil 16-foot bronze “Terrafly” sculpture during special dedication ceremony at King’s Bend Park
Pittsford, New York – The Town of Pittsford is preparing to welcome a new piece of public art to one of its local parks, with a dedication ceremony scheduled for Saturday, October 10. Residents and visitors are invited to attend the unveiling of “Terrafly,” a 16-foot-tall bronze sculpture created by internationally recognized Indian artist K.S. Radhakrishnan.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at King’s Bend Park, located at 170 West Jefferson Road. The event will mark the official introduction of the artwork, which was commissioned by the Dogra Art Foundation and donated to the town.
The sculpture stands near the park’s pond, where a new seating area and planted garden beds have been added around it. The location provides visitors with a place to sit, relax, and enjoy the artwork while spending time outdoors.
The donation comes from the Dogra Art Foundation, an organization established by Pittsford residents Dr. Vikram Dogra and his wife, Nalini Dogra. The foundation works to promote South Asian art in North America while encouraging cultural connections through artistic projects and educational activities.
For the foundation, bringing “Terrafly” to Pittsford represents an opportunity to contribute something lasting to the community.
“Our gift of ‘Terrafly’ to the Town of Pittsford expresses our love for this community and our wish to add something beautiful for people to enjoy,” said Dr. Vikram Dogra, founder of the Dogra Art Foundation. “The sculpture reflects the belief that public art has the power to transform shared spaces and strengthen community bonds.”
Town officials have welcomed the donation, describing it as a meaningful addition to Pittsford’s public spaces.
Town Supervisor Bill Smith expressed appreciation for the foundation’s generosity and its commitment to improving the community through art.
“We’re truly honored to receive such a special and unique gift for our residents,” said Town Supervisor Bill Smith. “We’re grateful to Dr. Dogra and the Dogra Foundation for this generous reflection of their care for the Pittsford community.”
The sculpture’s creator, K.S. Radhakrishnan, is widely recognized for his contributions to contemporary Indian sculpture. His work is known for bronze human figures that appear to move freely through space, often creating the impression that they are floating or resisting gravity.
Movement and energy are important elements of his artistic style. His sculptures have been displayed in exhibitions around the world and are included in public collections internationally.
With “Terrafly,” Pittsford residents will have an opportunity to experience the artist’s work in a public setting without visiting a museum or gallery.
The Dogra Art Foundation has made cultural education and public access to art central parts of its mission. Its activities include organizing exhibitions, supporting lectures, offering educational programs, and developing public art projects.
The donation to King’s Bend Park reflects those goals by placing a work from an internationally recognized artist in a location regularly used by the community.
King’s Bend Park covers approximately 19 acres and offers several recreational facilities. Among them are two winterized lodges and a recently added playground designed with accessible play features for children of different ages and abilities.
The addition of “Terrafly” introduces another attraction to the park, combining outdoor recreation with an opportunity to experience contemporary sculpture.
Visitors will be able to view the bronze artwork near the pond and use the surrounding seating area as part of their park experience.
The October 10 dedication will give community members an opportunity to see the sculpture and celebrate the donation that made its installation possible.
Through the partnership between the town and the Dogra Art Foundation, “Terrafly” will become a permanent addition to King’s Bend Park, offering residents and future visitors a new artistic feature within Pittsford’s public landscape.
