Rochester, New York – The City of Rochester and the Monroe County Board of Elections are joining forces to help residents better understand voting and prepare to cast their ballots as part of National Voter Education Week.

A series of voter registration and education events will be held at five City R-Centers from Monday, Oct. 5, through Friday, Oct. 9. Each event will run from 4 to 6 p.m. and focus on a different part of the voting process.

Board of Elections staff members and volunteers will be on hand throughout the week to answer questions and provide information. Topics will include voter registration, polling locations, understanding ballots, the democratic process and making a plan for Election Day or early voting.

The goal is to give residents practical information that can make voting easier to understand and help them feel prepared before they arrive at the polls.

“Becoming a confident voter is one of the most powerful ways a citizen can improve our democracy and keep it strong and healthy,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “National Voter Education Week is a great opportunity to become well-informed and even get involved as a trusted ambassador to help others navigate the voting process. I am grateful for our partnership with the County Board of Elections as we empower all residents to cast their ballot with confidence on November 5.”

The first event is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 5, at the Trenton & Pamela Jackson R-Center, located at 485 N. Clinton Ave. The session will focus on registering to vote and finding the Monroe County Board of Elections.

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the program moves to the David F. Gantt R-Center at 700 North St. The topic for the day will be understanding the voting process, giving residents an opportunity to learn more about the steps involved in participating in an election.

The Adams Street R-Center at 85 Adams St. will host Wednesday’s event. That session will focus on knowing and understanding the ballot. Election officials and volunteers will provide information intended to help voters become more familiar with what they will see when casting their votes.

On Thursday, Oct. 8, activities will continue at the Edgerton R-Center, located at 41 Backus St. The focus will shift toward making a plan to vote, including information about voting early.

The week will conclude Friday, Oct. 9, with an event at the Thomas P. Ryan R-Center. The listed locations for the center are 271 Flint St. and 530 Webster Ave. The final session will focus on sharing voting information with the community, encouraging participants to help others better understand the process.

All five sessions are scheduled between 4 and 6 p.m.

National Voter Education Week is a nonpartisan initiative held each year during the first full week of October. Rather than supporting particular candidates or political parties, the initiative focuses on providing people with information they need to participate in elections.

Through the Rochester events, residents can learn not only how to register, but also where to vote, how to read their ballot and how to prepare ahead of Election Day.

The partnership between the city and the Monroe County Board of Elections is designed to bring that information directly into community locations, giving residents several opportunities during the week to ask questions and become more familiar with voting procedures.
