Penfield school tax bills set to be mailed to residents on August 31
Penfield, New York – School tax bills in the Town of Penfield are scheduled to be mailed on August 31, 2026, giving residents several weeks to review their bills and make arrangements for payment before the first major deadline arrives.
The Town of Penfield will begin collecting school taxes on September 1. Town officials are reminding property owners that school tax collection follows a slightly different process from the collection of Town and County taxes, so residents should pay close attention to the deadlines and payment requirements.
For homeowners who choose to pay their school taxes in installments, the first payment must be made by September 15, 2026. The town also stresses that installment payments must be made for the exact amount shown on the payment stub.
Residents who miss the initial installment deadline have a limited window to make the payment. If the first installment is not paid by September 21, the installment option will no longer be available.
For those paying the full amount at once, the deadline for payment without interest is October 1, 2026.
Town officials are also warning residents to be cautious when using online banking services to send their tax payments. Payments made through a bank’s online bill-pay system are highly discouraged because the timing and delivery of those payments cannot always be controlled by either the bank or the Town of Penfield.
One concern is that banks may mail these payments rather than send them electronically. Such payments can arrive in envelopes without a postmark, making it difficult to establish when the payment was actually sent.
That distinction can become important if a payment reaches the town after the deadline. According to the tax office, a payment received after the due date is considered late, and additional interest charges will apply regardless of the date written on the check.
Residents who plan to use online banking are therefore encouraged to consider the possible delivery time before choosing that method. A payment scheduled through a bank does not necessarily mean the town will receive it on the same day.
The town is encouraging property owners to review their tax bills as soon as they arrive and determine which payment method works best for them. Those choosing installments should be especially careful about the September deadlines, while residents paying the entire bill should keep the October 1 deadline in mind.
The Town of Penfield offers several payment options for school taxes, and residents can find more detailed information about those methods through the town’s tax information resources.
Anyone with questions about a school tax bill, payment deadlines or available payment methods can contact the Penfield tax office at (585) 340-8625 or by email at [email protected].
With the bills scheduled to go into the mail at the end of August, officials are urging residents not to wait until the last moment to arrange payment. Understanding the deadlines in advance can help property owners avoid losing the installment option or facing additional interest because a payment arrives late.
More information, including a full listing of payment options, is available on the Town of Penfield website at www.penfieldny.gov/tax.
