NYSP seek public help identifying woman accused of leaving Norwich Walmart with $830 in unpaid merchandise

New York – A woman is being sought by New York State Police after investigators say she left a Norwich Walmart with about $830 worth of merchandise that had not been paid for.

According to NYSP at Norwich, the incident happened July 30, 2026, at approximately 1:48 p.m., when the woman entered the Walmart and began shopping. Police said she gathered a large number of items before heading to the store’s self-checkout area.

Investigators allege that the woman scanned only some of the merchandise but skipped payment for approximately $830 worth of items. The merchandise reportedly included toys, electronics and household products.

The woman remained inside the store for roughly 25 minutes. At about 2:13 p.m., she attempted to leave with a shopping cart filled with the unpaid merchandise.

A Walmart associate stopped the woman before she exited and asked to inspect her receipt. Police said the woman showed the employee what appeared to be an old, crumpled receipt from a distance before continuing toward the exit.

She then left the store with the cart and the merchandise, according to investigators.

Police said the woman was not alone during the incident. A male accompanied her while she was inside the Walmart, although he did not leave the store carrying any of the merchandise.

After leaving the store, the two reportedly entered an unknown model gray or silver-colored sedan and drove away from the parking lot.

New York State Police are now asking the public for help identifying the woman. Investigators have released information about the incident and are seeking anyone who may recognize her or have information about the vehicle involved.

The case remains under investigation, and police have not publicly identified the woman.

The request comes as investigators work to determine the woman’s identity and gather additional information about the reported theft at the Norwich store.

Police are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, recognized the woman or has information about the gray or silver sedan to contact investigators. Even information that may appear minor could potentially assist in identifying the person involved.
