State Police arrest Hyde Park man after investigation into alleged identity theft and forgery

Rochester, New York – A Hyde Park man has been arrested following a New York State Police investigation into allegations that he misused a local business account and committed identity theft and forgery.

The New York State Police in Rhinebeck announced the arrest of Austyn A. Moyer-Mayhar, 20, of Hyde Park, after members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) completed an investigation involving the reported fraudulent use of a company fuel charge account.

According to investigators, the case began on June 23, 2026, when the owner of Lehan’s Lawn and Landscaping contacted authorities after discovering unauthorized charges made through the company’s fuel account at a gas station in Staatsburg. The business owner reported concerns that someone had used the account without permission, leading State Police to begin an investigation.

During the investigation, authorities determined that Moyer-Mayhar, who was previously employed by the company, allegedly continued making purchases through the business account after his employment had ended. Troopers said the alleged activity occurred between April and June 2026.

Investigators further found that Moyer-Mayhar allegedly forged the business owner’s signature on multiple fuel receipts. The purchases were reportedly charged directly to the company’s account, resulting in approximately $1,376 in fuel expenses that investigators say were unauthorized.

Following the investigation, State Police arrested Moyer-Mayhar on July 24, 2026. He was charged with several felony offenses connected to the alleged misuse of the account and business records.

The charges include Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a Class E felony; Identity Theft in the First Degree, a Class D felony; Forgery in the Second Degree, a Class D felony; and Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree, a Class E felony.

The arrest is the result of an investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, which examined the reported financial activity and documents connected to the business account.

Moyer-Mayhar was processed at the State Police station in Rhinebeck following his arrest. He was later released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hyde Park Court on August 11, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.

The case remains pending, and the charges against Moyer-Mayhar are allegations. A defendant is considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
